Full description

Starting from San Francisco, this guided tour takes you to Muir Woods National Monument and Sausalito. Discover the mystery of 400-feet (130 meters) tall redwood and sequoia trees at Muir Woods before stopping in Sausalito to sightsee, shop, and more. After pickup, start your tour with a scenic and informative drive to the Golden Gate Bridge through several of the best San Francisco neighborhoods as well as the presidio, a former military area of great beauty. Crossing the GG Bridge, stop at the northern vista point for stunning views of the bay and the bridge. Scenic views continue as the tour passes above the town of Sausalito and through portions of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Mount Tamalpais State Park, which merge with Muir Woods. Arriving at Muir Woods National Monument, your guide will inform you of the best way to experience the grove and where the oldest trees are located. An approximately 1 hour and 20-minute stay gives you time to see much of the grove and to explore the gift shop, café, and visitor center. Included in the tour is a stop in Sausalito to enjoy the art galleries, shops, cafes, restaurants, and yacht marinas. Views from Sausalito include the Bay Bridge, parts of the east bay, and San Francisco. After about an hour in Sausalito, you’ll get driven back to your hotel. Alternatively, if you want more time in Sausalito, a ferry boat, taxi, Lyft, or Uber service back to San Francisco can be arranged at your own expense.

  • Muir Woods National Monument entry fee ($15)

The Muir Woods are a great place to go close to San Francisco, really quiet, you feel close to nature and connected - it's a magical place! Sausalito is fine, you can walk around. The rip doesn't take a full day. The guide was very knowledgable and gave us a lot of info, but also gave us the space to enjoy the woods by ourselves. You have to pay the entrance ticket for the woods. If I had more time (14-15h) I would have done the Yosemite and Giant Sequoia trip instead.

Michael was a very informative tour guide. He was prompt, stayed in touch, and overall a nice person to ride and listen to. Not enough time spent at Muir Woods so if you want to stay for a couple hours you shouldn’t do a tour. You just get a taste. We probably had enough time in Sausalito for a quick bite then head back but we opted to be leisurely and take the ferry back. Fun time. Much appreciated.

Our tour guide Jerry was amazing. He was so knowledgeable about San Francisco, the surrounding areas, and california as a whole. He stopped plenty of times and offered to take photos for us at the best places. He was very accommodating when we were late for pickup because of public transit delays. It’s necessary to note that tour guides are not allowed within the redwoods but we got a complete historical rundown before entry. Also note, There is a $15/per person fee to enter the redwoods if you don’t have a National park pass. I highly recommend doing this tour though, it’s easily the best way to see Sausalito and the redwoods if you’re staying in SF, and with a great tour guide like Jerry there’s never a dull moment!
