Iceland: Lava Centre Exhibition and Cinema Entry Ticket

6. Iceland: Lava Centre Exhibition and Cinema Entry Ticket

Journey through the geological history of a nation as you explore the fiery heart of Iceland at awarded Lava Centre overlooking the great volcanoes of Eyjafjallajökull, Katla and Hekla. Learn by using interactive displays and videos. Become immersed in an experience that blends education with artistic displays of the various natural forces that created Iceland. Go to the Trembling Earth section and learn how diverging tectonic plate movements and rising magma cause frequent earthquakes. Experience the drama of a simulated earthquake. In front of the Fiery Heart of Iceland display, learn about the normal up-flow of magma at the diverging plate boundaries and how they interact with a mantle plume (hot spot) beneath Iceland, pin-pointed in the central highlands. Once the gaseous molten rock in the earth’s crust and mantle, known as magma, is expelled during a volcanic eruption, it is termed lava and tephra (airborne material). There are 30 volcanic systems in Iceland containing many types of volcanoes, with a strong impact on nature and the rapidly developing landscapes. In the Magma Learning Center, get an insight into many volcanic structures. Tephra forms when magma encounters water or ice, or if the gaseous magma is very viscous. The magma splinters into pieces of various sizes that may spread over large areas. Get a panoramic view of 4 large, active but dormant volcanoes and a group of volcanic islands in the Local Volcano section, or from the viewing deck. All are of a different type and nature, and two of them are among the most active and productive volcanoes in Iceland!

Fantastic tour! Vanessa was an excellent guide and the pictures she took were the perfect way for us to remember such an amazing experience! I was prepared to be pretty miserably cold the whole time but I can say it really was not as bad as I thought it would be - I was comfortable in the dry suit. Also, you float very easily so do not need to worry about sinking or having to exert yourself swimming the entire length. Very cool experience!

Our guide Anais was incredible. The team did an excellent job of explaining things. The dry suits kept us dry and cozy. The views in the water were just spectacular. My only feedback would be to consider investing in a few suits for short people with hips. My suit was clearly built for a bigger man based on the length and size. I know they are expensive, so just something to consider. Overall had an amazing time!!

We had an amazing experience with Troll expeditions, Veronica our guide was friendly, funny and knowledgeable making the activity extremely enjoyable! We would definitely recommend this activity, the water was so clear and we were very happy that the dry suits kept us dry and warm in the cold temperatures!

A great experience. Super competent guides with a lot of good humor. There was information about the process and the area. A lot of attention was paid to the well-being and asked again and again. I would repeat the offer with this provider at any time. Highly Recommended.

The experience is very impressive. To be in this fissure, with the water so clear and the colors vivid; It's of all beauty! The equipment is well adapted, so we were not cold at all. Our guide Anaïs was very good. Great activity to do!
