Siena: Legend of the Palio tour with exclusive Contrada Museum : ( Option to visit the Cathedral at the end with pre-reserved tickets ) Enjoy a small group (max 12 people) or a private tour and learn about the world’s greatest horse race Palio with an expert local guide. The Palio is not merely a tourist event, but extraordinary evidence of a Medieval tradition that still represents the joyful celebration of Siena and its history twice a year, on July 2nd and August 16th. Listen to stories of the crowds and chaotic thrills at the thunderous, lawless, and medieval-style horse race in Siena. On these dates the 17 Contradas (districts) into which the city is divided compete in the Piazza Del Campo, the main city square, to win glory in the eyes of the city and a very prestigious award: the “Palio”, a silk banner painted by great artists. Walk with your knowledgeable local guide through hidden alleys and narrow streets and discover some of the 17 Contradas with their fascinating traditions. Be enchanted by the numerous tabernacles, property markers, banners, ornamental decorations that give color to the streets and make each district unique: each Contrada is represented by an animal or a symbol and has a long and extraordinary history which is rooted in Siena’s glorious Medieval past. Explore the enchanting neighborhoods of the Renaissance church of Provenzano and the magnificent square of the Cathedral, one of the best known Romanesque-Gothic monuments of Italy, both closely linked with the worship and glorification of the Virgin Mary, to whom the race is dedicated. Find out how the sacred and the secular coexist in the lives of the Palio’s lovers and leave your guide with enough knowledge to be independent after the tour. What people are saying about Siena Cathedral

This was a fantastic experience for our family! Sylvia was a very knowledgeable and engaging tour guide. She tried to connect with our kids, asking them questions along the way. We visited eight different cities on our trip to Italy, and our children liked Siena the best because of the tour we had with Sylvia. Highly recommend this tour for families with kids, you will all learn a lot and enjoy seeing this beautiful city!

It was a lot of fun. It takes a little patience for the apps to download and for the whole thing to work, but it made for a great family experience. Age-related: Children who want to actively participate must be able to read (in the case of Siena also English). The historical part may have to be adapted to age. It was totally perfect for our children (December 14th) and for us parents!

It was very interesting, especially being a first such experience. We had an amazing time with my two teenager kids who got very involved in the quest. BTW the story was quite creative!

A great tour! The tour guide was great and spoke excellent German. The tour was exciting for our son (10). Highly recommended!

It's great to see siena while discovering its history in such an entertaining way
