South Coast Classic: Full-Day Tour from Reykjavik

1. South Coast Classic: Full-Day Tour from Reykjavik

On this full-day tour, you’ll follow the coastline from Reykjavík into the volcanic and glaciated wonderland that is Iceland's south coast. Walk behind the thundering veil of spray at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and take in the incredible views from the top of the Skógafoss waterfall. Your tour begins with a drive through lava fields, passing by the active Hengill volcano, and then down to rich coastal farmlands. On clear days you’ll be able to see the Hekla volcano, and in the distance the glacier-capped Eyjafjallajökull volcano rises majestically above the coastal mountains. Just a few kilometers off the coastline and easily visible are the volcanic Westman Islands, an archipelago of around 15 small islands, only one of which is inhabited. Stop at the Sólheimajökull glacier, which is every photographer’s dream. Next on the itinerary is the Reynisfjara black sand beach. See the powerful Atlantic waves crashing on the black sands, the jagged basalt sea stacks and the huge basalt-column cave. Next you’ll head to the coastal village of Vik, the southernmost village in Iceland, located on the island’s main ring road. Despite its small size (291 inhabitants), it is the largest settlement for 70 kilometers. On your way back to Reykjavík, you’ll stop by the powerful Skógafoss waterfall for a short walk up a flight of steps to admire one of Iceland´s most scenic views. The view takes in glaciers, volcanoes and black sandy beaches. The last stop is at the 60-meter-high Seljalandsfoss waterfall, best known for the hidden pathway behind and around it.

Reykjavík: South Coast & Jokulsarlon Sightseeing Tour

2. Reykjavík: South Coast & Jokulsarlon Sightseeing Tour

Join a guided day trip from Reykjavik to the glacial lagoon of Jokulsarlon in southeastern Iceland. Visit other iconic natural landmarks such as the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls on the way. Discover a stretch of black sand at Reynisfjara Beach and Diamond Beach on the south coast. Start your day of adventure with a pickup from one of the designated points in the Reykjavik downtown area. Make your way to the first stop, the stunning Seljalandsfoss waterfall, one of the few waterfalls in Iceland that you can walk behind. Next up is the powerful Skogafoss waterfall, nestled in the peaceful area of Skogar. Explore the largest waterfalls in Iceland surrounded by beautiful scenery. Follow the trail on the right side of the waterfall for a chance to view it from several angles. Then, visit the fishing village of Vik and make a stop for lunch (at your own expense). After your meal, continue to the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, a scenic sight that you might recall from various Hollywood movies. See majestic icebergs floating in the lagoon at Jokulsarlon. You can pay for a boat ride (optional) at the lagoon if you'd like to get closer to the icebergs. A short walk away from the lagoon lies Diamond Beach. See diamond-like icebergs on the black volcanic beach. After some exploration, it’s time for dinner at Skaftafell (at your own expense). If visiting in the summer, make use of the long daylight hours and stop by the Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach on your way back to Reykjavik. Known for the amazing scenery all around, most notably the unique basalt column formations, Reynisfjara is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Iceland.

This tour was taken from good to great because of our guide, Karen. I got picked up at 8:30 and you don’t get to the first stop, black sand beach until 12 - so it feels quite long to get there - we had to shuttle other people to other activities and we stopped off at a petrol station for 30 mins which felt unnecessary. The stops; black sand, Vic and 2 waterfalls were great. At the second waterfall make sure you go to find the third ‘secret waterfall’. Coach was comfortable, no USB charging and it’s a long day with lots of pics so take portable charger. This trip is good value for money

Fantastic trip that gives you a real flavour of Iceland. Our guide Bo was very knowledgeable. He gave just the right amount of information, informative without being a lecture. Lunch stop was good with a choice of 4 different places to eat and at a reasonable price. I liked that this a small coach with Reykjavik Sightseeing so not too many people.

Tour was great, definitely recommend. I don't remember tour guy's name on this day, but "Gary" was amazing. I had great time, trip was great, plus I learned few new interesting things about Iceland. Thank you "Gary"^^!

The South Coast Classic: Full-Day Tour from Reykjavik was hugely enjoyable as we were lucky enough to get amazing weather, breathtaking views/scenery and multiple rainbow-filled waterfalls.
