For lovers of classical chamber music, this concert is a bit disappointing, the line-up is too light for the enormous space and the performance lacks some precision and enthusiasm. For a higher amount it is better to make reservations in good time for concerts in the major music houses (Staatsopera, Volksopera, Musikverein,...) that offer superior quality. Another tip: look for (cheap) organ concerts or (free) musical Masses in churches (Peterskirche, Augustiner Kirche, Michaëlerkirche,...) Above all, avoid concerts in costume for tourists.

Excellent Advent Concert. Our seats were “restricted view” so we didn’t see everything closely. However the sound was beautiful throughout. I think my favourite performer was the violinist - absolutely beautiful performance. Soprano and tenor were great, as was the trumpet soloist. It was a very cold night, the cathedral wasn’t very warm but the music was heart warming!

The large pipe organ is extraordinary. It is well suited for Bach’s compositions, but unfortunately the able organist had only one of Bach’s works on the program. It would be helpful to know the program when deciding to buy tickets. Additionally, attendees should be required to turn off mobile phones as their light is distracting. This has been an unfortunate feature in the Staatsoper as well.
