With nearly twenty years of combined experience teaching at the college level and working in the public history sector, I am dedicated to my craft and love sharing history with others. The tour begins in front of the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon, one of Charleston’s oldest and most historical buildings. Continue down East Bay Street, passing Rainbow Row. See period mansions, and admire the views of Charleston Harbor and White Point Garden. Walk in the footsteps of pirates and their captors, as your guide tells you stories of looting and plundering. Wander the streets and alleys of Charleston’s South of Broad neighborhood. Learn about George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the founding of America. Head back to the starting point, passing the Four Corners of the Law and the shops and residences on Broad Street. Your experience includes entrance to both the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art and Philip Simmons House.

Stand at the gate of the only surviving slave auction house in South Carolina and delve into the history of William Washington, a lesser-known Revolutionary War hero. Charleston's history and unique way of life can be greatly attributed to its location on a small peninsula bounded by two rivers. The southern tip of this peninsula, known as the Battery, has become one of the city's most treasured sites and no visit to Charleston would be complete without touring this historic district. Starting and ending at the Edmondston-Alston House, take an hour-long guided walking tour South of Broad Street, learning not only about the area's rich history, but further about the extended Alston family during the years before the Civil War. Your experience will conclude with a 30-minute tour of the Edmondston-Alston House, which is constructed in lush Greek Revival style, evocative of a classic antebellum architectural trend. Constructed in 1825, the house commands a magnificent view of Charleston Harbor and 90% of the home's furnishings were originally owned by the family.
