Full description
Take a walking tour with a professional private guide to explore one of the most celebrated piazzas in the world. St. Mark’s Square is surrounded on 3 sides by magnificent structures such as the 15th-century Clock Tower, the Procuratie Vecchie, Procuratie Nuove and Ala Napoleonica. On the fourth side stands the outstanding St. Mark’s Basilica, with its Clock Tower rising above the open area known as the Mercerie. Your guide will tell you about the history and architectural styles of the Clock Tower, the Bell Tower, the Correr Museum and the Bridge of Sighs. St. Mark’s Bell Tower is the highest structure in Venice. Originally built in the 9th century, it has been rebuilt several times since. It unexpectedly crashed to the ground in 1902 and was rebuilt following the original design, incorporating the ancient bells. The Bridge of Sighs connects the Palazzo delle Prigioni and Palazzo Ducale, or Doge’s Palace. It is called the Bridge of Sighs because in times past, convicts were forced to enter prison through this bridge. According to the legend when they had their last glimpse of Venice they would let out a sigh. Visit the interior of St. Mark's Basilica to admire its many treasures, including the Pala d’Oro, the statues, amazing glass and carvings.

very good and funny

The guide, Elena, is excellent. His level of Spanish is very good and he told us very funny anecdotes and stories. As we were only 4 people, the attention was personalized, even the children enjoyed entering the basilica and the museum. In short, it was two hours that passed very quickly. I recommend it to everyone. Thank you Elena.

A well organized informative city tour

Our guide Maria picked us up on time as agreed at the hotel near the Rialto Bridge and took us on a two-hour tour to St. Mark's Square. She told us a lot about the history of the city in very good German and was able to tell us a lot of additional information when we asked. The tour ended in St. Mark's Basilica. Our group consisted of nine people, some of whom were already restricted due to their age. Maria took this into account and deliberately chose places in the shade for explanations, where one could lean on or sit down for a moment.

Very professional local guide with very good German language skills.

The organizers were very flexible. Since we booked with very short notice we had a provisional booking confirmation when we went off. Unfortunately the provisional tour appointment couldn't be confirmed by the local provider. So during the trip to Venice we had to send a ton of emails. GetYourGuide as well as the local provider 'BUCINTORO VIAGGI SRL' put in a lot of effort to reach a solution. Because of our additional flight delay we weren't able to make it to the new appointment either, which also led to more 'cooperative' email communication. Of course we had to pay for the whole thing, but the lady at the end made a big effort to let us in to the Marcus Dome, which had actually already been closed. Even the shortened tour was really high-quality. Definitely recommend it ....
