Full description
While Porto might come to mind when you think of Portugal’s famous Port wine, it is actually produced in the region across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia. This small coastal city, south of the Douro river, is lined with wine cellars and family-run restaurants serving homemade food. Most Porto visitors only get to explore the wine caves along the riverside, but we will take you to the untapped food shops off the beaten path. Your day will begin with an espresso and traditional pastries. We will then whisk you off for an exclusive guided tour and wine tasting at the oldest and still-functioning Portuguese port wine cellar. You’ll see vintage wines dating back to the 18th century and learn about the delicacy of wine tasting as you sample a selection of Ports. After a bit of sipping, you’ll be ready for some delicious local food! We will stop at three local neighborhood eateries where you’ll meet the owners and sample classic Portuguese dishes. Enjoy a freshly made Francesinha sandwich, as well as other local favorites paired with wine and beer produced in the region.
