Immerse yourself in Portuguese culture and listen to Fado, folk music that originated in Lisbon in the 18th century, also known as the Lisbon blues. Fado is an important part of Portuguese culture. Head to the Caves Cálem winery and embark on a guided tour of the facilities to learn about the history and traditions of port wine production. At the end of your tour, sample 2 port wines, a white port, and a special reserve. The performance features male and female vocalists accompanied by a traditional Portuguese guitar and a classical guitar. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear the music and experience the country's soul.

Vila Nova de Gaia: Port Wine Guided Blind Tasting Experience

3. Vila Nova de Gaia: Port Wine Guided Blind Tasting Experience

Are you ready to put your senses into test? Get a guided blind wine tasting with our wine expert and learn all about Port wines! All of that at our historical building in the heart of Vila Nova de Gaia, just across the Douro River from Porto city. The impressive building dates back to 200 years and it has a close relation to the Port Wine world. It was originally used as a cooperage that manufactured barrels and casks for the Port houses in Vila Nova de Gaia. In the 1950s, with the increasing usage of stainless steel vats, the business was turned into a wooden box manufacturer (boxes which were used to contain Port bottles), until the ‘90s, when it was transformed into a Port wine tasting room. Finally, we acquired this lodge in 2020 to be able to share our wines and passion directly with our guests in Vila Nova de Gaia. The best place to learn all about the specifics of the Port Wine with our friendly staff! Welcome to the Quevedo family! Although the Quevedo Family has been producing Port Wine in São João da Pesqueira for more than 5 generations, the actual company was only founded in 1993. This makes us one of the most recent Port Wine Houses from the Douro. With less than 30 years of existence, we feel we are at the beginning of our journey and every day is a fresh page added to what we like to do most: explore all the ways wines can be enjoyed.

Thrilling. Engaging. Totalizing. That's how I would describe the show. It was like being in your home tavern singing fodo with friends. The 3 artists are simple, emotional enough and above all very good. Obliged

Best Fado show in Portugal. Beautiful singing, expert guitar playing, great explanations of the music. We were all singing and clapping along by the end.

What an amazing night. And don't worry if you don't speak the language, it's just as beautiful to listen to without knowing the story.

A really nice event with a guided tour and a small concert at the end. Guidance could have been in English and Portuguese.

Really very interesting tour and great fado show including tasting. Perfect entertainment for a rainy day in Porto.
