It was a place where criminal decisions regarding the fate of many European nations were made, using prisoners in the German arms industry and the construction of new concentration camps. There were plans to enlarge the complex, however the works were never completed because of the rapid advance of the Red Army during the Baltic Offensive in Autumn of 1944. On January 25 1945, the Wolf's Lair was blown up and abandoned 48 hours before the arrival of Soviet forces.
