    Enjoy a full-day bike ride to and from Mount Vernon on the banks of the Potomac River, or rest your legs on the return journey and travel by boat! Meet in the Old Town of Alexandria to pick-up your bike and helmet. Then, cycle along the wooded Mount Vernon Trail to George Washington’s historic Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens. Lock your bike outside the estate for tour staff to pick up. Then, spend the day self-exploring the grounds and mansion house. The mansion’s interior has mostly been restored to the appearance at the time of George and Martha Washington's occupancy. Enter Washington’s study and feel a part of history! Take time for lunch, and enjoy a leisurely stroll in the gardens and farm. Then, bike back to Alexandria, or opt to return by boat. Climb aboard the Miss Christin for the 2:00 PM departure from Mount Vernon’s dock. Relax on the narrated cruise as you glide back to Alexandria's Old Town.

    The tour begins and ends at the Unlimited Biking Alexandria office in the Old Town of Alexandria. It's convenient for the King Street Trolley Stop at North Union Street and a couple of hundred yards south of the Water Taxi. You can take a shuttle from DCA to King St Metro to the Trolley.

    • Note: If you would like to take the boat cruise back in lieu of biking, you must select the "Mount Vernon Full-Day Bike and Boat Tour" option when booking

    Wonderful bike ride with spectacular scenery ending at Mount Vernon.

    From the beautiful, historic town of Alexandria, following level terrain along the Potomac river with some wooded sections with modest hills. This was a ride that we were able to do, even though my wife and I are aged 70, with histories of knee and hip surgeries, and our granddaughters ages 8 and 12. Ending with a tour of the home of George Washington and visit to the tomb of the first President and his wife. At the tomb, because of my military service, I was asked to read Washington's prayer to the nation and lead the visitors in the Pledge of Allegiance. Our granddaughters were asked to lay a wreath. Finally, slow boat ride back to Alexandria within steps of our car. A fantastic trip.

    Couples bike ride to Mount Vernon

    Picked up bikes in Alexandria. Easy metro ride on blue line from DC Picked up bikes then cycled s glorious 20 Mile through beautiful Virginia, along the Potomac river, to Mount Vernon. Bike man met us there to take our bikes back. Lunch at The Inn. Stroll around the house and gardens, then boat trip back Alexandria. Excellent day out

    Der Start der Tour war holprig. Im Fahrradverleih war der Mitarbeiter nicht sehr freundlich, es gab keine Möglichkeit (kein WiFi) mir die Tickets für das Schiff und Mount Vernon zu schicken. Er hätte sie ja auch ausdrucken können! Auch stellte sich der Nachweis der korrekten Abgabe des Rades in Mount Vernon als schwierig dar. Letztendlich musste ich die Tickets auf seinem Handy fotografieren und mir mit den Fotos Zugang verschaffen. Obwohl es eine individuelle Tour war, gab es keine Karte o.ä., nur eine vage, mündliche Wegbeschreibung. Endlich angekommen, habe ich das abgeschlossene Rad fotografiert und Fotos per Mail zum Fahrradladen geschickt. Ab dann war ich endlich entspannt und konnte den schönen Tag genießen. Aber Achtung, das Schiff fuhr eine Stunde früher als ursprünglich angekündigt los. Zeit war aber genügend vorhanden...
