The origins of the area can be traced back to the 17th century where it is believed to have been erected for the city's laborers and immigrants. Many of these immigrants originated from France or near, then being the agricultural part of town, was subsequently named Jardin which is French for garden. This word eventually changed into Jordaan, the name of the district today. As a working class neighborhood this area ceased to exist in the 1980s. What people are saying about Westerkerk

It was a really great bike tour with lots of information. Despite the fact that we haven't ridden a bike for years, the guide was very courteous and extremely friendly. Riding a bike in Amsterdam is a great feeling. A little turbulent on the one hand and very calm on the other. We would book this tour again and again. Kudos to the German-speaking guide Christian! :) Greetings from Lower Franconia

We had a guided historical bike tour of Amsterdam with Christiaan on Wednesday. It was very very nice! We received a very friendly welcome from the manager. The bikes were great to ride and Christiaan did a great job of getting us around Amsterdam, at the right pace and making frequent stops with great reports on historical sites.

My family and I absolutely loved our bike tour with Aldo! He gave great modern day context to Amsterdam's history. I've taken other bike tours around Amsterdam and this was one of the best! It was fun and informative and a must-do if you're only in Amsterdam for a short period of time.

Rad was amazing guide would recommend him for your English bike tour. Great knowledge and sense of humour. Enjoyed every bit and had a wonderful experience.

I got to know Amsterdam very differently during the bike tour than it would have been possible on a city tour by bus, highly recommended.
