Contained within a ring of medieval stone walls, York concentrates 2000 years of history into a remarkably small area. This ninety-minute tour begins at Bootham Bar, the city’s northern entrance, from which every period of York’s development is visible, from Roman times to the present day. You’ll hear tales of Viking invasion while delving deep into the maze of secret passages known as ‘Snickelways’; passing an unhappy mermaid and a little red devil as well as catching a glimpse of a 15th Century banqueting hall. Finally you’ll emerge into the Shambles,York’s best-known cobbled street - once a row of butchers, now instantly recognisable to Harry Potter fans as the inspiration for Diagon Alley.

OUTSTANDING LIVE NARRATION! Highly recommend this bus because York is fairly large and it helps to orient you about where things are. Use the hop on/hop off feature to take you to where you want to go in York. It’s very helpful. Buses run regularly and there was always a bus close by when we needed one. Outstanding drivers! Very nimble and safe—great people most of the time we were there. My husband and I have had many hop on/ hop off bus tours and they are usually fine and generally run recording of the tour highlights as the bus follows its route. It’s a special treat when they have live commentary as some of York’s buses do. We especially appreciated MARK’S intelligent, knowledgeable, interactive, informative talk—really great guy and really sought to care for all of us—listening, as well as personalizing what he had to say for us! It was really well done! Learned a lot! Tusen takk! Cheers!

Awesome tour of Yorkshire Dales! We loved it! Matt of Mountain Goat Tours is a professional, organized, well prepared guide and he was very good at his job! He was hilariously entertaining, he provided us with fascinating facts, history, and background information—and he even quickly reviewed high points at the end (which I loved!), he nimbly guided us, personally cared for and looked after us, and lead our little band seamlessly through a very full day. We loved every minute! It takes a special person to sincerely look after so many different passengers with various needs. We also really appreciated his brilliant, expert, and safe driving! Matt went the extra mile for us to personalize the tour and make it special and include things he know we would find interesting. Not many guides are as talented as he is. Highly recommend!

What a great experience. Each lovely member of the tour company staff was excellent and took good care of us. Captain Laurie made this trip fun—with his awesome live commentary. He had everyone giggling and we learned a lot. He also spotted a seal on the banks! Was that ever incredible. It was a great way to sit back and relax and to see the city from another perspective.

I wouldnt recommend to go party night before, but I'm really glad I didn't fall asleep and could enjoy this tour . Guide was perfect, funny, told us a lot of interesting facts Timing was great, also recommodations what to see and do in each place. Would go for it again , for sure!

This man was a good comedian. He told us funny stories but it wasn't as scary as we thought. Thank you for your good job.
